Fugitive sex offender arrested

A fugitive sex offender wanted by Morgan County authorities was apprehended in Canada this week.
According to Morgan County DA Bob Burrell, John Banville was arrested Sept. 20 by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Newfoundland, Canada. Banville is wanted in Morgan County for sexual abuse of a minor and failure to register as a sex offender. The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department originally arrested Banville on these charges in September 2006.
The United States Marshal Service had originally tracked Banville to Canada in 2007 and discovered he had relocated at least five times. His current address, located next to an elementary school, was identified and Canadian officials issued a warrant for his arrest.
