Nov. 25, 1960-Rev. Darryl Harris, former pastor of Lebanon Baptist Church and now a resident of Old Hickory, Tenn., suffered a coronary yesterday, Hartselle to preach at a Thanksgiving service at his old church.
Nov. 25, 1960-Franklin Penn, a student at Florence State, is spending the Thanksgiving holidays with home folks. Others enjoying their break from classes include Bowes Channel (Auburn), Judy Newman (Emory), and Joe L. Wright and Catherine Ann Dunaway (Jacksonville State).
Nov. 26, 1960-There were numerous accidents at the fog-bound intersection of old and new Highway 31 this morning. Six cars were involved in a pile-up initially. A little while later, there were two more wrecks. Nine people were injured, one seriously (a brain concussion).
Nov. 26, 1960-Among Hartselle folks in Birmingham today for the Alabama-Auburn football game were the C. C. Odens, the R. W. Kings, the Garvice Nicholsons, the James Howell Stephensons, the Howard Fowlers, the Robert Streets, the Robert Pecks, Mrs. L. R. Palmer, Dr. Robert Sittason, and L. H. Houston. Alabama won the game 3-0. This was the lowest scoring game of any in the long-interrupted series between the two state universities.
Nov. 27, 1960-Dr. W. H. Block is currently in Washington, D.C., for a meeting of the American
College of Chest Physicians.
Nov. 27, 1960-Buddy Rodgers has sold his taxi company’s permit to Grady Segars and J. A. Stanford. This will have the immediate effect of reducing the number of taxis in Hartselle. Stanfard said they were too many for the city. Both he and Segars have four each.
Nov. 28, 1960-Money in the amount of $700 was stolen early this morning from Ingram’s Service Station located on U.S. 31, just north of Bush’s Dairy Bar.)
Nov. 28, 1960-This was parents’ visitation night at MCHS. Courses and methods of determining student grades were explained to those in attendance.
Nov. 28, 1960-The W.S.C.S. of West End Methodist met this afternoon. Mrs. C. I. Lee announced the upcoming church-wide study on “Alcohol.”
Nov. 29, 1960-Sgt. Hershel Speak returned to Del Rio, Tex., today after being called here by the death of his father, Fred M. Speake.
Nov. 29, 1960-The MCHS basketball Tigers beat Butler High of Huntsville tonight at Pettey gym by the score of 48-44. Don Logan was Hartselle’s high scorer with 12 points,
Nov. 30, 1960-James Sullivan, a Crestline Elementary School student, fell from the rear door of his bus on the way home from classes this afternoon. The second grader, who was celebrating his 7th birthday today, suffered lacerations on his face and hands.
Nov. 30, 1960-newcomers’ tea was hosted this afternoon by Mrs. John E. Guier and Mrs. Bracken Puckett. Assisting in greeting the most recent additions to Hartselle’s population were Mrs. Roland King, Mrs. W. C. Duncan, and Mrs. Harold Blanton.
Dec. 1, 1960-Thousands of area residents converged on Hartselle late this afternoon for a big parade and the official opening of the Christmas season here. Beautiful colored lights were turned on just before the parade began.
Dec. 1, 1960-From now on all Hartselle drug stores will be closed Sunday mornings so that all personnel can attend church. The stores will be open afternoons from 1-6.
Dec. 1, 1960-Hartselle Jaycees are pushing for parallel parking on the entirety of Main Street. In many places along this thoroughfare vehicles have to cross the centerline of the street to avoid hitting the rears of cars and trucks parked diagonally.
Dec. 1, 1960-Frank Bean is a medical patient at Hartselle Hospital.
Dec. 1, 1960-Two MCHS Tiger football players, Jimmy Speegle and David Norwood, have been named to the Birmingham News all-state team.
