Maj. Morris Grant Looney

Funeral for Maj. Morris Grant Looney, 94, of Lewisburg, Tenn., a former Morgan County resident, was Thur., Sept. 1, at Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home in Lewisburg.

Burial was at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

Maj. Looney died Tues., Aug. 30, 2011. He was born in Moulton, Ala., the son of Morris Lloyd and Laura Geneva Woods Looney.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Pearl Harbor when it was attacked. He went on to serve in the Korean War and was a military police advisor for the Department of State Agency for International Development in South Vietnam. He was severely wounded during the Tet Offensive in Vietnam, returning for duty after a long recovery. After his retirement from government service, the family relocated to Lewisburg where he farmed and raised goats for more than 20 years. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, a member of the VFW, NRA, Lions Club, and a 32nd degree Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, and a beloved grandson, Creighton James Scheuchenzuber.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Evelyn Margaret “Marge” Mary Looney; four daughters, Evelynn U. Putman and husband William of Charleston, S.C., Theresa K. Ng (Chung M.) of Shanghai, China, Kathleen M. Smith and husband Alan and Marilyn Scheuchenzuber and husband Louis of Lewisburg; a sister, Lorene Looney Campbell of Tuscumbia; a brother, Jack N. Looney of Cabool, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
