Looking back in time

Senior Group

The senior citizen group went to eat breakfast at Mr. Henry’s Restaurant in Hartselle recently. Those that attended were Billy and Mary Abies, Terry and Jeannie Kelsey, Martha Asherbranner, Martha Garrison, Patsy Clemmons, Faye Anders, and Mavlyn Roberson, Bobby and Linda Ball, Judy McClellan, Charles and Linda Williams, Shirley Sauter, Vivian Summerford, Robert Morris, Barbara Asher-branner, and Jackie Turney.

The group also went to Moulton to attend a 50’s party at their senior center. They wore 50’s dress attire and danced to the tunes of the 50’s.

Looking back in time

Whenever we were going to school, the children that lived in town walked to school because they did not have cars. There was only one car in the family and it was used by the person that worked. On bad weather days, we rode in a taxi. The fare was $.25.

We did math problems by hand, not by a computer because there weren’t any.

Children that lived in the country would often have me to buy them things from the store, which was not far from my home.

Lemons were three for $.10 and a loaf of bread was $.05. Flour was in 25- pound cloth bags and there was a towel on the bag. Peanut butter was in a milk glass and dessert dishes. Loose tea was in pretty tea glasses.
