Health tip: For bee and wasp stings mix meat tenderizer with water to make a paste. Remove the stinger, and put the paste on the sting.

Looking back: Prices at a food store in Birmingham May of 1957: pork liver, $.19 a pound; chuck roast, $.29 a pound; eggs, $.29 a dozen; bacon, $.29 a pound; dog food, $.59 a can; and bananas, $.10 a pound.

Planning a party: When planning a party, make sure the party room is attractive with plenty of light. If the party is to be served by candlelight, use unscented candles on the serving table. Do not invite guests that you know do not get along. Plan your menu well in advance and do not serve something new unless you have tried it first.

Do not serve food to your guests that you know they will not like. Arrange desserts and dessert plates on a table near the serving table.

Cooking tips:

1. Reduce oven temperature by 25 degrees whenever cooking in glass.

2. Sprinkle a little salt in the frying pan to keep the oil from spattering.

3. You will need 12 graham crackers to make one cup of cracker crumbs for a recipe.
