Bulldogs outscore JPII 26-5 down the stretch to get come from behind victory

The Bulldogs opened area play with a matchup against visiting St. John Paul II that ended in an overtime win for the Bulldogs.

The game started with Lindeman knocking down two free throws after St. John Paul II was called for a technical foul during warmups.

Priceville hit a three-pointer to take a 5-0 lead less than a minute into the game.

After a Falcons’ three-pointer cut the lead to 5-3, the Bulldogs answered with a 7-0 run to a 12-3 lead. St. John Paul II closed the quarter on an 8-2 run to make the score 14-11 going into the second quarter.

The Falcons opened the quarter with a 5-0 run to take a 16-14 lead – their first lead of the game. Priceville went on another 7-0 run to retake the lead at 21-16.

The Falcons scored four consecutive points to cut the lead to 21-20. The Bulldogs closed the first half with a 14-4 run to take a 35-24 lead at halftime.

Priceville was called for two technical fouls in the first half, one on Brody Long in the first quarter and one on Chris Thomas in the second quarter. St. John Paul II hit three of four free throws but could not capitalize on the free possessions.

The third quarter opened like the first, but the Falcons were shooting and making two technical free throws this time. St. John Paul II began the second half chipping into the Priceville lead, finally drawing even at 38-38 with about three minutes left in the quarter. The Bulldogs and Falcons went back and forth over the next couple of minutes, with Priceville taking a 45-43 lead with about a minute to go in the quarter. St. John Paul II closed the quarter on a 5-0 run to retake the lead, 48-45, heading into the fourth quarter.

Priceville closed the quarter on a 13-0 run to force overtime. Lindeman hit a three-pointer with less than 20 seconds remaining to tie the game at 58-58.

During the Bulldogs’ 13-0 run, emotions began to boil over. Three St. John Paul II students and one Priceville student were escorted out of the gym by police.

Priceville dominated the overtime period, outscoring the Falcons 13-5 in the game’s final four minutes. Thomas opened the quarter with four points, and Caleb Pedings added four in the last two minutes, playing for the injured Thomas.

Lindeman scored 22 points and had four steals to lead Priceville. Thomas finished with 15 points, five rebounds and three steals, while Elijah Hopkins added 10 points and seven assists. Jake Langlois finished with six points, seven rebounds, four assists, three steals and a blocked shot.
