VFW Auxiliary helps local veteran

By Martha Jackson

The Falkville VFW Post 10774 has teamed up with Decatur Post 4190 to help a local veteran. Marty is a local Veteran who recently spent a few weeks in the hospital, where they amputated his leg and some toes on his remaining leg. The Falkville Auxiliary, recently learned that Marty was homeless and staying in his small truck in a parking lot. This has brought many challenges, for him to receive the care that he needs, both medically and financially. The Falkville and Decatur VFW Post have teamed up to help get Marty temporary housing, while they assist him in getting the benefits that he deserves. The Falkville and Decatur Post Auxiliary are asking for help for Marty, because according to representatives, it may take 10 months or longer for Marty to get approved for SSI benefits. This prevents him from applying for government housing. A Go Fund Me has been created to help pay for his temporary living situation while other options are being explored, to best serve him. This hotel is costing $538 dollars for a two-week stay. Visit the Falkville VFW Auxiliary’s Facebook page for more information.
