New outdoor fitness court opens this week at Sparkman Park

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama and the National Fitness Campaign (NFC) are pleased to announce the launch of an outdoor Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama Fitness Court convenient to Sparkman Park at 1102 Madison Street SW. The Fitness Court will officially be unveiled at a ribbon cutting ceremony Aug. 31 at 10 a.m.

This launch is a result of the partnership between Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama and NFC to expand free access to high quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for communities around the state.

“On behalf of the City of Hartselle and the city council, I am excited to announce the grand opening of the outdoor fitness court to our city. In talking with our citizens, many are asking for outdoor exercise and fitness areas to be added to those currently in our city,” said Mayor Randy Garrison. “This fitness center definitely adds to the opportunities for better health and fitness for all the citizens of Hartselle, regardless of age and current health condition. I offer my thanks and appreciation to NFC and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama for enabling the City of Hartselle to participate in this opportunity. I want to also thank Cullman Regional Hospital and Coca Cola Bottling of Decatur for their sponsorship of the fitness center. It is a great day in our city when we can offer more free recreational opportunities for our citizens.”

“One of our company’s top priorities is to help improve the health and wellness of Alabamians,” said Sophie Martin, Director of Corporate Communications and Community Relations, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. “We are honored to partner with the City of Hartselle to bring one of the first Blue Cross sponsored Fitness Courts to Alabama. This innovative platform will help encourage their community to lead a healthy and active lifestyle at no cost to their residents.”

The new Fitness Court is an open-air wellness center that allows users to leverage their own body weight to get a complete workout using seven stations. Created with adults 14 years and older in mind, the Fitness Court is adaptable for all fitness levels. New users can also download the free Fitness Court App — a coach-in-your- pocket style platform — that transforms the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness ecosystem. The Fitness Court App is available for iOS and Android.

Hartselle is one of the outdoor Fitness Courts in a series of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama Fitness Courts that will be constructed in easily accessible public spaces through 2022. NFC’s award-winning initiative will welcome its 500th city across America in 2022.
