Volleyball notebook: Brewer sweeps two tri-matches

Local schools picked up several wins this past week, including Brewer, who finished the week 8-2.

Brewer

The Lady Patriots swept their four opponents this past week, dropping only one set in regular season play. They defeated West Morgan 2-0 (25-21, 27-25), Fairview 2-1 (27-29, 25-16, 15-9), Russellville 3-0 and Covenant Christian 2-0.

Cheyenne Lucas led Brewer with 36 kills, 11 digs and eight blocks, while Laney Nelson added 24 kills, nine digs and seven blocks. Bronwyn Borden had 63 digs, 56 assists and five aces. Jacey Atkinson had 77 assists, 22 digs,16 kills and four aces.

Brewer (13-5) finished 4-2 in tournament play this past Saturday with wins over Muscle Shoals 2-0 (25-18, 25-14), Ramsay 2-0 (25-23, 25-21), St. Clair County 2-0 (25-18, 25-16) and Spring Garden 2-1 (23-25, 25-20, 15-9). They suffered losses to Guntersville 2-1 (16-25, 25-17, 15-7) and Donoho 2-1 (24-26, 25-20, 15-13).

Danville

The Lady Hawks improved to 10-4 after going 5-2 this past week. Danville picked up a win over Addison before defeating Austin, Brindlee Mountain, Austin and Hatton in tournament play. They suffered losses to Gulf Shores and Bay Shore Christian.

Faith Parker led the way with 67 kills, 55 digs and three blocks, while Lillie Kate Eddy had 43 kills and two blocks.

Priceville

The Lady Bulldogs (7-4) finished the week 3-3 with wins over Clements 2-0 (25-22, 25-13), Fairview 2-0 (25-15, 25-22) and Lexington 2-0 (25-18, 25-17). However, they dropped matches to Huntsville 2-0 (25-19, 25-16), Hartselle 2-1 and Lawrence County 2-1 (25-22, 25-17, 19-17.)

Falkville

The Lady Blue Devils opened the season with a 3-1 (19-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-20) victory over 6A Lee-Huntsville before dropping matches to dropped matches to Holly Pond 2-0 (25-15, 25-16) and Cold Springs 2-1 (25-20, 22-25, 15-13) last Thursday.

Ella Kyker led Falkville with 21 kills, four digs, three blocks and an ace, while Chloee Butler added 11 kills and three aces. Abbey Grace Tomlin had 12 kills, nine digs and three aces.
