Volleyball notebook: Brewer picks up five wins while Danville wins Brooks Invitational

The Brewer Lady Patriots picked up five wins last week, including a 2-0 win over 3A No. 4 Danville. The Lady Hawks had a disappointing start to the week but finished by winning the 32-team Brooks Invitational.

Brewer

The Lady Patriots defeated Danville 2-0 this past Friday. Cheyenne Lucas had a team-high nine kills.

Laney Nelson had eight kills, while Jacey Atkinson had 20 assists and 15 digs. Blakely Faulkner added eight digs.

Brewer picked up 2-0 wins this past Thursday over Good Hope (25-7, 25-23) and Fairview (25-15, 25-13).

Lucas had 18 kills to lead the Lady Patriots, while Atkinson added 30 assists and five kills. Bronwyn Borden had 12 digs, and Nelson had eight kills.

Brewer defeated area foe Russellville 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-16) and a 2-1 (21-25, 25-23, 15-8) victory over Ardmore Sept. 13.

Hope West led the Lady Patriots with 14 kills, two blocks and two digs, while Atkinson added 41 assists and five digs. Bronwyn Borden finished with 17 digs and Lucas had 10 kills and three digs.

Danville

The Lady Hawks started the week with a 2-1 loss to 5A No. 1 Westminster Christian and a 2-0 loss to 5A No. 5 Madison Academy on the road at Madison Academy.

They finished the week by winning the 32-team Brooks Invitational. The Lady Hawks defeated 4A No. 7 Deshler 2-0 (25-14, 25-19) to win the championship. They defeated 1A No. 1 Addison and Pike Road in bracket play. In pool play, the Lady Hawks defeated Kossuth (MS), Central-Florence, Russellville and 5A No. 3 Jasper.

Faith Parker led Danville with 55 kills, 53 digs and six aces. Lillie Kate Eddy finished with 38 kills and four aces, while Emily Lacy had 68 digs and 10 aces.

Falkville

Last Tuesday, the Lady Blue Devils picked up wins over Cold Springs 2-1 (25-19, 23-25, 15-12) and Hanceville 2-0 (25-20, 25-22).

Ella Kyker led Falkville with 21 kills, three blocks and two digs. Abbey Grace Tomlin had eight kills, and Ellie Cate Hill had 40 assists, four digs and three kills. Chloee Butler added seven digs and a pair of aces.

Priceville

Priceville picked up an area sweep over West Limestone 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-22). Zoey Benson led the Lady Bulldogs with 22 kills, while Abby Langlois had 18. Ashlyn Johnson finished with 57 assists.

 

They suffered losses to West Morgan 3-0 (22-25, 22-25, 11-25) and Madison County 2-1 on Thursday and James Clemens 2-1 (26-24, 23-25, 11-15) and 5A No. 1 Westminster Christian 2-0 (16-25, 10-25) on Monday.
