Hill leads Lady Tigers past Huntsville, East Limestone

Sophomore Gracie Hill led the Hartselle Lady Tigers to wins over 7A no. 10 Huntsville and East Limestone this past week. She scored 14 points in a 59-28 win over Huntsville and 15 in a 48-46 overtime win over East Limestone.

Hartselle improved to 9-5 with the two victories.

Hartselle 59, Huntsville 28

Hartselle picked up a 59-28 win over 7A no. 10 Huntsville on the road. The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Panthers in every quarter, leading 33-16 at the half and 45-19 after three quarters.

The Hartselle offense hit 10 three-pointers while the defense forced 18 Huntsville turnovers.

Joining Hill in double digits were Karleigh Shipley and Hannah Burks, who finished with 13 points each.

Shipley led the team with seven rebounds, while Sophie Estep pulled down six.

Hartselle 48, East Limestone 46 (OT)

The Lady Tigers battled through four quarters and overtime before pulling out a two-point win over visiting East Limestone.

Hartselle led 13-11 after the first quarter but was outscored by two in the second quarter, tying the game at 24-24 heading into halftime. The Lady Indians took a 40-38 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

It was a defensive battle in the fourth as the Lady Tigers held East Limestone to four points, while only managing to score six points against the Lady Indians’ defense. As the buzzer sounded, the score was 44-44 and both teams were headed for overtime.

In overtime, Hartselle outscored East Limestone 4-2 and held on for the 48-46 win. It was the first overtime game of the season for the Lady Tigers.

In addition to Hill’s 15 points, Anna Burroughs added 12 points. Mary Itsede finished with a double-double, 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Shauna Fletcher scored 24 points to lead East Limestone. Tyjah Duncan and Taylor Farrar had seven points each.
