Community rallies to support hurricane victims in North Carolina

By Staff Reports

Millions of people are still without power, food, water and other necessities after Hurricane Helene left areas of western North Carolina, Florida and Georgia ravaged last week.

Locally, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and Posse are organizing a relief effort to support victims of the recent destruction left in Helene’s wake. Residents are encouraged to contribute water, food, baby supplies and personal hygiene items to help those in need. The organization has secured a 53-foot box trailer members will fill with donations, including food for pets and livestock, and deliver to North Carolina.

Drop-off locations include Weavers Gas, across from Lowe’s in Hartselle, the Morgan County Jail, Somerville Town Hall, Falkville Library and Pizza Ed’s in downtown Hartselle.

Monetary donations, which are tax-deductible, can be made payable to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Posse.

Helene made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane in Florida’s Big Bend region Sept. 26. The death toll Monday across the southeast topped 130.
