Hartselle drone teams soar at regional competition

Hartselle students took to the skies at the Aerial Drone Southeast Regionals in Lexington, South Carolina, April 14-15, where five teams representing Hartselle Intermediate School (HIS), F.E. Burleson Elementary (FEB), and Crestline Elementary (CES) competed against 42 teams from 10 states. 

Three Hartselle teams soared into the top 10, with HIS Sky Ops earning finishing in third place. FEB’s When Pigs Fly team placed seventh, and HIS Altitude Avengers secured ninth place overall. All three teams advanced to the quarterfinals.  

This year marked a milestone for HIS, as it was the first time the school fielded a sixth-grade drone team.  

The Flying Squirrels from FEB placed 25th, while CES’s Flying Tigers, also a first-year team, finished 36th.
