Danville tops Brewer, 72-62, now 16-1

Danville's Hawks claimed win No.16 in 17 games by overcoming a six-point deficit with six minutes left to defeat Brewer's Patriots, 72-62, on the road Saturday night.
The Lady Patriots outscored the Lady Hawks, 64-32, for their ninth win against nine defeats.
The Hawks pulled away from the Patriots after tying the game at 51-all with 5:13 left in the game.
They led 61-55 with 1:28 left and outscored the Patriots 11-7 the rest of the way on the strength of made free throws.
The score was tied at 17-all after one period, 36-all at halftime and 46-44 in Brewer's favor after three periods.
Nate Orr paced the Hawks with 34 points and five rebounds.
Matt Young followed with 18 points and seven rebounds.
D.J. Bridges pulled down seven rebounds and Dexter Wimberley had seven assists.
Matt Cobbs led Brewer with 14 points.
Rusty Boyd and Austin Mooney each had 11 points and Matt Neilsen had 10.
Patrick Pinchon, the Hawks' center, didn't play. He was out of town on a football recruitment visit.
"Not having Patrick hurt us under the boards," said Danville head coach Robert Pope.
"We had several players who stepped up big in the fourth quarter, but it was the defense that carried us, as it has done all year.
"I told them at the half that we had a chance as long as we could keep it close until the end."
The Lady Patriots grabbed an early lead and were never threatened by the Lady Hawks, as they led 37-12 at halftime.
Andrea Crawford led the Lady Patriots with 13 points. Anna Mooney added 10 points. and Ashley West had nine points and 10 rebounds.
Mallory Alred paced the Lady Hawks with seven points, followed by Lauren Simmons with six, while Jessica Nichols and Magen Linderman with four each.
Jessica Hazel added three more, while Charleston Wilson, Cassie Cowart, Bethany Evans and Kristen Sparkman scored two points each for the Lady Hawks.
Danville slipped to 7-7 this season. Both clubs next see action on Jan. when Brewer travels to Scottsboro and Danville hosts JB Pennington.
