The groundwork for a new television cable access channel dedicated to local public education and government programming has been completed and is awaiting a hookup to Charter Communications’ transmission tower before it can go on the air, according to Shawn Woods, systems administrator.
Woods said a $12,000 grant from Charter was used to purchase the equipment required to set up a base station. Included is a Panasonic video camera. It will be loaned to various non-profit entities for their use in recording events for tape-delayed programming.
Woods said programming possibilities range from competitive sports events to town hall meetings and health and safety programs to weather updates. The channel will be on the air 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The video screen will feature a crawler for repeat messaging and a space for the listing of coming events.
Tankersley said the community will have to help provide content for the channel.
