7/8-year-old Sub-district A tourney gets under way at Sparkman Park

The sounds of baseball filled the air this week at the Sub-district A 7/8-year-old All-Stars tournament at Sparkman Park. Through games played Monday night, host team Hartselle National held an 0-2 record with two games still to be played.
Athens National 10, Hartselle National 9
In a game played Monday evening, the Hartselle National team scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a two-run lead, only to see Athens National score three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the victory.
Hartselle National's comeback in the sixth inning was paced by a three-run home run by Connor Landers, scoring Kyle Eddy and Will Howse to make the score 7-7. The team added two more runs on four consecutive singles by Chandler Stinson, Jordan Hartsell, Ryan Wallwork and Jack Hackett.
In the bottom of the sixth, Athens National loaded the bases with nobody out but Hartselle National managed to make two outs with the score still 9-9. William O'Rear hit a sharp groundball toward shortstop to score Jacob Shackleford with the winning run.
Scoring runs for Hartselle National were Howse and Landers with two each, and Eddy, Nicholas Johnson, Stinson, Hartsell and Houston Wright with one each. Wallwork was 3-for-3 in the game and Landers finished 2-for-3.
Chase Christopher had a two-run home run for Athens National.
Decatur American 12, Hartselle National 7
The teams were tied 1-1 after one inning of play before Decatur American scored three runs in the top of the second and two in the top of the third to break the game open. Hartselle National scored two runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings but could never take the lead as it dropped its opening game Saturday.
Connor Landers had three singles; Kyle Eddy, Ryan Wallwork and Will Howse each had two singles; and Jordan Hartsell, Chandler Stinson, Houston Wright and Jordan Thompson each singled once. Jack Hackett and Howse each had a double and Stinson hit a triple.
Eddy scored two runs and Wallwork, Stinson, Howse, Thompson and Hackett each scored one.
Morgan Central 1, Morgan National East 0
Morgan Central's Logan Fiske singled to bring home Aubrey Richardson in the top of the fourth inning for the only run in Saturday's contest. Richardson led off the inning with a double and Fiske's single came with one out.
Athens National 10, Morgan Central 9
Morgan Central fell in its tournament opener Friday evening. Will Hughes, Brandon Speegle, Tristan Finch and Heath Mann each had two singles. Singling once were Rusher Clemons, Aubrey Richardson, Logan Fiske, Johndale Motes and Dylan Cross. Clemons and Speegle each doubled and Motes hit a triple.
Fiske and Motes each scored three runs and Clemons, Richardson and Speegle scored one run apiece.
Decatur American 5, Morgan National East 0
For Morgan National East in the tournament's opening game Friday, Skylar Bennett hit two singles and Noah Stapler, Jacob Humphrey and Cole Maples each singled once.
