Sheriff uses simulator for training

Morgan County Sheriff Greg Bartlett said he hopes a new state-of-the-art indoor firearms training system will help make his deputies and the citizens of Morgan County safer thanks to the use of a gun simulator.
The system recreates criminal circumstances with computer software, a projector, a large viewing screen and firearms altered to shoot laser beams rather than bullets.
Bartlett said his department purchased the system after he saw it demonstrated at a National Sheriff’s Conference.
Emergency lighting and other features mounted in the training room at the sheriff’s office make the crime scene simulations seem more real,” he said.
Bartlett said the sheriff’s office trains with the same weapons issued to deputies. They include glick pistols, pepper spray, tasers and M-4’s, which are issued to the SWAT team.
He said pistol permit fees were used to purchase the new high-tech training equipment.
