Hartselle High School recently held induction ceremonies for Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society.
Mu Alpha Theta is a national high school and two-year college mathematics club whose purpose is to promote scholarship in, and enjoyment and understanding of mathematics among students. The purpose of Hartselle High School’s Mu Alpha Theta is to honor excellent math students; to set a positive example for our fellow students and promote mathematics in our school; to explore various mathematics fields and careers; and to be of service to the school.
Hartselle’s requirements are higher than the national standards. HHS standards are: the candidate must be a junior or senior; must currently be doing satisfactory work in a college preparatory mathematics course with signed endorsement of current mathematics teacher; have not made below a “B” in a college preparatory mathematics course (semester grade only); has completed two years of college preparatory mathematics (geometry, algebra II, precalculus); and have at least an overall “B” scholastic average.
