Brewer’s big-play ability sparks road victory over Yellow Jackets

CURRY – Brewer showed its big-play capability Friday night on the road and came away with an even bigger reward – a region victory.
The Patriots scored four of their five touchdowns on plays 65 yards or longer to dismantle Curry 35-19 at Hudson-O’Rear Stadium.
The win was the first of the season for the Patriots, who are now 1-2 overall and 1-1 in region play. It also gives Brewer some confidence heading into a key stretch of games that has the Patriots playing five of their next six at home.
Brewer dominated the game with 420 yards of total offense with James Graham igniting the Patriots with his 75-yard touchdown run just three plays into the game.
The Patriots took a 14-7 lead at the half when Madison Mann threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Taylor Bowling.
Curry trimmed the lead to 14-13 with a touchdown on the first drive of the second half that was capped with a Chay Pruitt 2-yard run.
But Brewer quickly answered to put the game out of reach.
Phillip Newby returned the kickoff 70 yards to help the Patriots extend the lead to 21-13.
Newby also caught a 65-yard scoring strike from Mann midway through the third quarter to stretch the lead.
Brewer scored its final touchdown in the fourth quarter with Mann’s second touchdown pass of the night. He teamed up with Shawn Ricketts for a 15-yard touchdown.
Curry trimmed the lead to 16 points with a late touchdown in the fourth quarter.
