Brewer runs to county cross country titles
OAKVILLE – Brewer added to its run of Morgan County cross country championships with wins in the Northwest Alabama Invitational last Thursday at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park.
Brewer’s boys’ team finished with five runners in the top 10 spots to finish 36 points ahead of rival Hartselle. Clay Oden won both the Morgan County individual title and the Northwest Alabama crown iwth his time of 17:04.84.
Brewer has won the past four Morgan County boys’ cross country championships, while the Brewer girls have won two straight.
Hartselle’s Johnathan Duncan ran a 17:45.19 to finish second in the county portion of the meet.
Brewer’s Sam Martin (18:12.18), Fernando Arellanes (18:33.19), Corey Phelps (19:00.15) and Jordan Caudle (19:43.71) all earned top 10 finishes for the Patriots.
Duncan and Noah Battles (18:20.60) led Hartselle by finishing in the top 10. Alex Wilt (20:21.20), Tristen Mitchell (20:22.93) and Cameron Cunningham (20:50.16) rounded out the Tigers’ top five runners.
Falkville’s Heath Blanchard was 14th overall in the county standings. The Blue Devils’ Michael Hopper was 16th.
Cade Wilemon, Alex Tuttle and Evan Cottingham rounded out the top five Falkville runners.
Brewer’s girls placed six runners in the top 10 to beat Decatur and Hartselle. The Lady Patriots’ Lindsey Collier, a junior, ran a 21:57.07 to win the county individual championship. She was 18th overall in the Northwest Alabama Invitational standings.
Trina Badger (21:58.21) finished second, followed by Katie Brakke (fourth, 22:27.65), Bree Watkins (sixth, 23:04.76) and Elizabeth Ash (seventh, 23:34.33).
Hartselle’s top finisher in the girls’ race was Joy Harris, who was eighth at 23:53.07. Ivy Buchanan finished 15th with a time of 24:58.72.
Rounding out the top five for Hartselle were Haley Baker (18th, 25:47.76), Lindsey Elmore (19th, 25:48.73) and Erin Brown (23rd, 26:42.08).
