City gets software cheaper than expected
The City of Hartselle is getting an upgrade to software in several city departments for about $5,000 less than originally announced.
Mayor Dwight Tankersley signed a contract with Tyler Technology for $255,472 for upgrading and implementing new software for the police, court, administration and other departments.
Tyler was the only company to bid on the project, which allowed the city to negotiate the contract price. The original bid was more than $260,000, but Tankersley said they decided to cut an unneeded server included in the bid.
“These software upgrades were needed,” he said. “One department is still using software based in MS-DOS. If you’re still using DOS, it’s like you’re still using an 8-track player. It’s out of date.”
Tankersley said it will take Tyler six months to implement the software and train the staff.
