HHS softball players cited for achievements
Eight members of the 2013 Hartselle High School softball team have been nominated for all-area recognition based on their performances during the past season.
Six of the players saw action in all 56 games, had batting averages of over .320, collected 342 hits, scored 232 runs and blasted 27 home runs.
Senior third baseman Baylee Holt was the team’s leading hitter with a .450 batting average. She collected a team-high 171 hits and a team-high 60 runs.
Sophomore Taylor Wascavage, a catcher/shortstop, followed with a .445 batting average, which included 69 hits and 40 RBIs.
Senior Kayla Faulk, pitcher/first baseman, batted .405 with 55 RBIs and a team-high, nine home runs.
Junior Sarah Ellen Battles, a center fielder, had a .338 batting average, collected 48 hits and was a co-leader in sacrifices with 16.
Jada Hayes, a sophomore pitcher/shortstop, batted .322, had 46 hits and 32 RBIs.
Madeline Sittason, a junior catcher/right fielder, had a .336 batting average, 38 hits and 28 RBIs.
Hayes was also the team’s leading pitcher. She had a 16-5 record on the mound, compiled a 1.40 ERA and had 147 strikeouts in 120 innings of work.
Haley Jared finished the season with a 12-4 pitching record. She had an ERA of 1.88 and struck out 85 batters.
