Sons of American Revolution honor HCS students
Special to the Enquirer
Five Hartselle students are recognized by the local chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution for their participation in a district and statewide poster and oratorical contest. Reid Collins and McKinley Morris, fifth–grade students at Hartselle Intermediate School, placed second and third in the district–wide poster contest, respectively. They flipped in the statewide competition, bringing home third and second place respectively. At the high school level, Olivia Patterson, Samantha Simmons and Brinkley Cottingham won at the district level and advanced to the state competition. Patterson, a senior, won first place in the state and a $1,000 award; Simmons, a sophomore, won second place and $750; and Cottingham, a senior, won third place and a $500 prize. Patterson’s speech will be forwarded to the national competition in April.
