Janice Marie Payton
Hartselle Janice Marie Payton, 85, died on April 24, 2025, at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham. She was born on September 26, 1939, in Belleville, Illinois to Clifford William Slade and Helen Marie Havel Slade. She was formerly employed in the Banking Industry with Compass Bank.
Mrs. Payton was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Wayne Payton, and a grandson, Tyler Whitt. Janice had many loves in her life: bingo, scratch-off lottery, shopping, going to the beach and to the mountains, Texas Roadhouse, and watching Colton ride motocross. She also loved to cook and entertain her family and guests; and always enjoyed fixing food for her neighbors. Perhaps her best love was her family, especially her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Sheri Strong, Susan Mardis (Byron) and Stacy Payne (Daryl); a brother, Sonny Slade; and a sister, Kathy Funke; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. A memorial service will be announced in the coming days.
