    Dixie Youth League recap

    7 and 8-year old results
    The Hartselle Dixie Youth Baseball 7 and 8-year old division kicked off its season with several close games, as the Yankees, Braves, Cardinals, Rockies, A's and Astros all picking up wins.
    Yankees 7, Indians 5
    Thomas Fleischman had three hits (two doubles), scored two runs and knocked in two more to lead the Yankees past the Indians.
    Ty Pendley had two hits and three RBIs, Brandon Long had three hits and Tom Chapman had two hits with a run scored and RBI for the Yankees.
    For the Indians, Mason Norman had a double and single with two RBIs, while Spencer Appleton had a pair of singles and two runs. Joe Yeager had two hits and also scored two runs.
    Braves 9, Mets 8
    James Glenn had three singles, a run scored and four RBIs for the Braves in an opening day win.
    Brandon Roberts had a double, a run scored and an RBI, while Quintin Dupper, Hogan Ricks, Alston Howard, Garrett Fowler, Robbie Fields, Steven Cleek, Cheston Beard and Braxton Brewer all had singles.
    For the Mets, Phillip Summerford had a home run, Prestyn Wallace, Tyler Phillips and Riley Wiggins had triples, while Phillips and Justin Gault had doubles.
    Phillips had a total of three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs in the loss.
    Cardinals 6, D'Backs 3
    The Cardinals had 16 hits to the Diamondbacks' eight in the win.
    Thomas Penton had two doubles for the Cardinals, while Nicholas Walls, Jacob Stewart and Grant Shelton also had extra-base hits.
    Stewart scored two runs and had an RBI, while Shelton knocked in two runners.
    Will Payne had a double and two singles for the D'Backs, while scoring two runs.
    Griffen Steelman had a double and a single, while Lucas Landman and Benny Brown also had hits for the Diamondbacks.
    Rockies 14, Cubs 6
    The Rockies were the only team to win handily on opening day.
    Rockies slugger Garrett Sutton and Cub Troy Harris highlighted the day with a home run apiece.
    Both Sutton and Harris also had singles with a run scored and two RBIs.
    For the Rockies, Tyler Legg had a triple, double and two singles to go along with three runs scored and two RBIs. Collin Young, Tyler Vinson, Luke Sutton, Landon Tall, Jamison Maxwell, Brock Hickman and Michael Kent all had doubles.
    Hunter Hammack, Carson Blankenship, Lynn Mullins and Tyler Bailey each had doubles for the Cubs, as Hammack had three RBIs.
    A's 6, Red Sox 3
    For the A's, Connor Shelton and Dillon Campbell each had homers in the win.
    Caleb Lewis also had two triples on the day.
    Shelton, Campbell, Carter Harrison, Austin Jones, Graham McHugh and Justin Dozier all scored runs for the A's.
    The A's did not allow an extra-base hit on the day, giving up only singles to Seth Ramey, Easton Chenault (2), Adam Keenum (2) and Brent Copeland. Ramey, Chenault and Keenum each scored a run.
    Astros 5, Rangers 4
    Tillman Landers home run was not enough for the Rangers, as his team fell to the Astros.
    Landers was responsible for three runs crossing the plate.
    For the Astros, Brady Wallace and Daniel Hundley had a double apiece, as Wallace scored two runs and knocked in another, while Hundley registered a run batted in.
    Blaine Holt and Cole Thompson each had two singles apiece for the Astros, while Jacob Pohl, Wallace, Aaron Baker, Hundley and Dylan Thompson also had singles.
    Zane Hamlett and Hunter Livingston both had doubles for the Rangers, while Forrest Anders, Jared Rowe and Noah Holloday, along with Hamlett, had singles.
    9 and 10-year old results
    Alabama, Arizona State, Kentucky and Army all picked up wins in the 9 and 10-year old division Saturday. It marked opening day of the little league season.
    Alabama 8, Auburn 3
    Ryland Blankenship pitched four innings and struck out five batters for the win. He had relief help from Matthew Vest who pitched the final two innings.
    Auburn jumped ahead 3-0 after two innings. Todd Gibson, David Ferguson and Allen Smithson each scored for Auburn, but Alabama bounced back for eight unanswered runs.
    Ryan Brown, Dalton Jenkins, Blankenship, Vest, John Stewart, Houston Holmes, Seth Nuss and Ryan Copeland all scored runs for Alabama.
    Kameron Wallace suffered the loss for Auburn, giving up eight runs on six hits. He struck out 12 batters.
    Arizona St. 3, Florida St. 2
    Corey Holladay had "holiday" on the mound.
    The Arizona State pitcher pitched a complete game, giving up six hits, two runs and striking out 17 while walking none.
    He also had one of Arizona State's runs, along with Blair Sittason and Tyler Robinson.
    For Florida State, Chance Partlow had two hits and a run, while Jackson Reeves scored the other run.
    Jacob Kerr got the loss in relief, allowing one run on two hits in three innings of work. He struck out five.
    Kentucky 9, Clemson 2
    Kentucky pounded out 12 hits in the win.
    Both Will Swann and Jacob Garrison scored two runs apiece. Jake Hartsell had three hits and also scored a run.
    Swann earned the win in six innings of work, giving up two runs on three hits and striking out six.
    Will Lang suffered the loss, though he struck out eight batters.
    Army 10, Tennessee 1
    Army jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back.
    Matt Johnston pitched five innings and struck out 12 batters for the win.
    Aaron Wooley, Johnston, Daniel English and Luke Chattee each scored two runs for Army, as Johnston hit two doubles.
    Jake Kimbrell scored the only run for Tennessee, while Neely Kirby had a double.
