Family thanks community

I want to let the people of Hartselle know how wonderful they are. Our family lost a very precious person on Dec. 11, 2003. This person was Danny James Lewis, our husband, son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend. He did not live in Hartselle and yet the wonderful people who live here have been in prayer for Danny for a long time.
Danny was diagnosed with cancer in 2000. People we did not know were calling and offering prayers and support to us.
He went into remission for 17 months but the cancer returned with a vengance in July of this year. The cancer rapidly took control of his body and and his death was very painful and disfiguiring. Again, the people of Hartselle rallied and placed him on many prayer lists. Danny was not a Christian but with many prayers he accepted Christ just a few months before his death. We could never begin to tell of the peace that came with this.
Our family will never forget all the kindness and love we received not only from our personal friends but also complete strangers. We also knew that these strangers were our brothers and sisters in Christ. We would like to thank all of the wonderful caring people whose prayers we felt and gained strength through. We felt all the prayers each day and were prepared to let go of someone we loved so very much. We ask that you continue to to pray for us during this holiday season as we rejoice and celebrate our risen Savior's birth.
We know that our beloved Danny is with Jesus, pain free and happy. On a personal note, Danny was unable to speak but he was anxious to go be with the Lord. He even wrote a note and asked when would the angel come and take him to his Heavenly Father.
Thank you again for all the prayers, food and words of encouragement.

Red Cross means helping others

The American Red Cross depends on generous blood donors in Morgan County to help meet the needs of patients throughout our state. The Red Cross supplies more blood products in hospitals in Alabama and our nation than any other single source of blood – 60 percent of Alabama's blood supply and 45 percent of America's blood supply.
The Morgan-Lawrence Chapter of the American Red Cross has been serving Hartselle and the Morgan County community for 85 years. Just this year, compassionate Red Cross volunteers were on the scene of a multi-unit fire at Quail Run Apartments, providing support to responders and helping meet the needs of families. And, the Red Cross is there for every family that has a house fire. Many children take Red Cross swimming lessons at the Hartselle Pool; lifeguards receive Red Cross training.
Hartselle children learn how to be safe and responsible babysitters; emergency messages are sent to our military family members who are serving over seas; many of us learn how to respond to emergencies through First Aid and CPR training.
Please take time out to give Alabama blood this season at the Red Cross office in Decatur on Mondays and Thursdays; at the Falkville City Hall on Dec. 27 or at Summerford Nursing Home on Jan. 6. The Red Cross will be there for you. Will you be there for the Red Cross?

We at Sierra Springs Retirement/Assisted Living Facility would like to take a moment to say a special thanks to all of the various groups that came to our facility to perform for the staff and residents.
Over the last two years, we have seen such a wonderful outpouring of thoughtfulness to our senior community. It is especially wonderful during this holiday season to know that people are still willing to take time out of their busy schedules to come share with others.
Our seniors are more reluctant to get out during the cold winter months and thoroughly enjoy having the various groups come to them.
It is with much pride and appreciation that we recognize the following: Hartselle High School Les Amies, Parkview Baptist Church Decatur, Ann Knowlton's third and fourth grade chorus and drama classes of Priceville Elementary, First Methodist Church Chorus, the Transition Class of Hartselle High School, the Serenity Gospel Singers, Wolfgang Moritz, Will Wade, Bethel Baptist Church, Cub Scouts Pack 92, Decatur Baptist Singles Sunday School class, Hartselle United Methodist Church, and South Decatur Church of God.
