Hartselle has success in two spring break tournaments

GADSDEN - Hartselle picked up a split in a pair of games last weekend at Southside and Etowah.
The Tigers moved to 13-5 on the season with the split.
Southside used a pair of homers to rally past the Tigers 4-3 in the opening game.
Luke Bole took the loss despite finishing with 11 strikeouts. He allowed four hits and two earned runs. Southside had two homers to spark the win.
Ryan Joy led Hartselle’s offense with a pair of singles.
Zack Waddell, Bole, Garrett Turrentine, Walton Ashwander and Braddock Wilson each added hits for the Tigers.
Bole, Turrentine and Taylor Nelson drove in runs for Hartselle in the loss.
Hartselle loaded the bases in the seventh inning with no outs, but Southside got out of the jam with three straight outs on a double play and a groundout.
Hartselle 12, Etowah 2
Robby Reese had a double and a homer with four RBIs as Hartselle beat Etowah.
Ryan Joy was 3-for-3 with a pair of runs and an RBI. Taylor Nelson was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs. He also scored a run.
Zack Waddell, Josh Doyle, Logan Cain, John Roberts, David Reeves, Jake Wallace and Walton Ashwander each added hits.
Luke Bole, Chase Hall and Jared Johnson had RBIs in the win.
Chad Girodo got the win after striking out four in just two innings of work. The senior allowed one hit.
Garrett Turrentine and Josh Doyle pitched one inning each. Both allowed just one hit.
In the fifth, the Tigers used Josh Chop, Hayden McCaghren and Austin Reeves on the mound with each picking up one out while holding Etowah scoreless.
Softball
Nike Gulf Coast Classic
Hartselle’s Lady Tigers erupted for four runs on five hits in the fourth inning and went on to defeat Arab 4-0 in the opening round of pool play in the Gulf Shores Invitational Softball Tournament on Tuesday morning.
Rain forced the postponement of all games for one day and also prevented teams from participating in scheduled practice sessions on Sunday.
Hartselle was scheduled to play Thompson on Tuesday afternoon and had a three-game slate of games on tap for Wednesday. Their opponents in the last day of pool play were Hoover, Chelsea and Pisgah. A single elimination Tournament was slated to begin Thursday morning.
Hartselle came up with eight hits against Arab pitching. Chandler Orr led the way with a triple and single, Alex Paulsen doubled and singled, and Audrey McClanahan, Raley Sittason, Hayden Watts and Michele Fields each singled.
Abby McHugh was the winning pitcher. She allowed six hits and struck out two batters.
