As usual I haven’t written for a while. We had the storms and my son’s father-in-law went into the hospital – another cancer victim. I had to be there for my daughter-in-law and her mother.
During all of this the search and recovery was going on. I had children and grandchildren from Holly Pond to Moulton with the storms all around them, one-half to two miles nearby, but thank God they were all safe.
Some have the theory that mankind has destroyed our world with all the things we are doing and have done. We have all heard how they are cutting forests all over the world. Each stupid thing that is done adds to the world’s destruction.
I know some people don’t believe me when I speak of our roadsides being sprayed with poison to kill the grass and also to kill the trees. Why not mow (they have the equipment to do this) twice a summer and why not cut the trees back (again they have the equipment) in the winter. I have noticed that where they sprayed to kill the grass last year some ugly old weeds are all that is growing. They have already sprayed some roadsides and it also looks ugly. It makes me sick. I hope all my readers will protest to our road commissioners about this. I think before I told how they sowed grass on the way to Falkville it was very pretty and green. Then they sprayed the same place and killed the grass. This sounds like a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing.
I remember when my late husband and I retired and moved back here. We were staying with my mother and building our house. It was spring and everything was beautiful. They came up our road chopping limbs off trees with that terrible chopper they use. I was in the bathroom and heard my husband going crazy. I yelled I would stop them and he held the bathroom door and wouldn’t let me out. He knew I would go ballistic on them. But shouldn’t we? They use our tax money to help kill our environment. Well enough said, just think people!
Lawrence Cove Baptist held their homecoming and decoration last Sunday. Bro. Steven Smith proudly showed off their new addition to the church. After church they served a wonderful dinner and later the Spurgeons sang for everyone.
We were so sorry to hear that our wonderful friends, Bill and Jessie Onks, lost Bill’s sister last week. Our love and prayers go out to them.
As I said earlier, my daughter-in-law, Cindi lost her dad, Jr. Lou Allen. Please keep them in your prayers.
Our family enjoyed having my two sisters and brother-in-law here for a week. On Sunday last week we all had a picnic at Husky Park so that everyone could get together.
We were sorry to hear Christine Kinney was back in the hospital. Keep her in your prayers.
Oden Ridge Baptist Church enjoyed a singing last Sataurday night. Ruby Oden said she especially enjoyed the little six-year- old girl that sang.
Lawrence Cove Baptist Church will hold Bible school on June 8th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
Happy late anniversary to Rev. and Mrs. Steven Smith. Steven also had a birthday on the 11th.
Happy birthday to my daughter-in-law, Cindi Simmons on the 28th. She thought I would forget.
Our new little great-granddaughter Scarlett Lydia Hudson came into the world on the 15th of May. Aleisha and Jarred are the parents.
Happy late anniversary to my sweet daughter Rosemary and husband Larry Bartram on the 20th. They have been together 36 years. Wow!
