Faith to move mountains
In Matthew 17:20, Jesus delivers one of the most powerful statements in Scripture: “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
This bold declaration comes after a moment of frustration. The disciples had just failed to heal a boy suffering from seizures. Despite their efforts, they couldn’t help him. The boy’s father, desperate and out of options, turned to Jesus-and in an instant, Jesus healed him. Later, the disciples came to Jesus privately and asked the question that likely weighed heavily on their hearts: “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” Jesus’ answer was clear and direct-“Because you have so little faith.”
In that exchange, Jesus wasn’t shaming His disciples. He was teaching them- and us-that the power to over come life’s greatest challenges isn’t about how strong we are, but how deeply we trust in Him. He had already equipped them with the authority to heal and to serve, but their doubt had clouded that calling.
That lesson still speaks to us today. Whether the mountains in our lives are made of fear, insecurity, grief, addiction, or disappointment, Jesus reminds us that faith in Him can move even the most immovable obstacles. We don’t need to summon a superhuman strength or flawless confidence- we just need to trust Him, even in the smallest measure. That kind of faith doesn’t just move mountains; it reshapes hearts, transforms lives, and brings the impossible within reach. So the question remains: What mountain in your life is waiting to be moved? And are you ready to trust Him to move it?
