    Weddings and engagements

    Ivey, Smith exchange vows
    Mary Elizabeth Ivey and Steven William Smith, both of Atlanta, Ga., were wed Aug. 20, 2005, at 6 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Apalachicola, Fla. with the Rev. Rick Turner officiating.
    The bride is the daughter of Dick and Diane Ivy of Bainbridge, Ga. The groom is the son of Fred and Sandra Smith of Hartselle.
    Arrangements of roses, star gazer lilies, blue hydrangeas, irises, Gerber daisies and snaps were placed in front of stained-glassed windows and on the altar table. Four large silver candelabras, arrangements of greenery and palms were used as a backdrop.
    The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a strapless silk satin gown. The drop waist featured a rouched band of camel silk satin, which formed an overlapping sash that cascaded down the back of the gown and onto the chapel length train. She wore her sister's veil and carried a hand-tied bouquet of pink roses that featured a broach given to the bride by her mother. She also wore a sixpence and carried a handkerchief–a gift from her grandmother.
    Amy Andrews of Bainbridge, sister of the bride, was matron of honor.
    Bridal attendants were Leah Turner of Hartselle, sister of the groom, Jenny Griffin, Lauren Thrash and Regan Thwing, all of Atlanta, Katherine Martinez of New York, N.Y., Casey Smith of Pooler, Ga., and Jacqueline Smith of Birmingham.
    They wore gowns featuring a strapless bodice with all over rouching and an A-line cocktail skirt, both constructed of camel colored satin, and carried hand-tied bouquets of pink mini calla lilies, mini green hydrangea and esperance roses.
    Mallie Kate Andrews and Avery Grace Andrews of Bainbridge, nieces of the bride, were flower girls. William Grant Turner of Hartselle, nephew of the groom, was ring bearer.
    The groom's father was best man.
    Groomsmen were Abe Brand of Birmingham, Craig Covington and Nathan Ledbetter of Atlanta, Adam Haines of Decatur, Richard Ivey of Bainbridge, twin brother of the bride, Dan Coulter and Gary Turner, brother-in-law of the groom, of Hartselle.
    Music was provided by The Shelly Weiss String Quartet of Tallahassee, Fla., pianist Gaye Herndon, flautist Tammi Godwin, and vocalist Johnny Grimsley, all of Bainbridge.
    Following the ceremony, a reception featuring a dinner buffet was held at Gibson Inn of Apalachicola.
    The bride's table displayed a two-tier cake featuring rolled fondant icing edged with simple beading and a monogram to complete the presentation.
    The groom's table featured an assortment of white and dark chocolate truffles arranged in a monogram pattern.
    Nancy Grimsley was wedding director.
    Ashley Hickman of Atlanta attended the bride's book.
    The couple honeymooned in St. Lucia. They reside in Atlanta.
    A rehearsal party hosted by the groom's parents was held at The Owl Caf/ of Apalachicola.
    A bridal luncheon hosted by Tammi Godwin and Wynema Miles was held at Tamara's Caf/ Floridita of Apalachicola.
    The couple was honored with several prenuptial events, including:
    Vaughn, Emerson exchange vows
    Deidre Marie Vaughn of Trussville and Matthew Joel Emerson of Nashville, Tenn., formerly of Hartselle, were wed July 23, 2005, at 5:30 p.m. at Huffman United Methodist Church of Birmingham with the Rev. Rick Owen officiating.
    The bride is the daughter of Cecilia D. Vaughn of Trussville and the late William H. Vaughn. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Emerson of Hartselle.
    The church and altar were decorated with spiral candelabras and ferns.
    The bride, given in marriage by her brother, Lee Vaughn, wore a formal gown of white, off the shoulder, Italian silk adorned with hand sewn embroidery and seed pearls in a floral pattern that extended down the front, around the hem and down the chapel length train. Covered buttons extended the full length of the back of the dress. Her tulle veil with seed pearls in a floral pattern matching her dress was held by a tiara. She carried a bouquet of calla lilies.
    Leslie Cheng of Homewood was maid of honor.
    Bridal attendants were Leah Beth Emerson of Auburn, Lauren Faulkner of Vernon, and Valerie Cassel of Redwood Falls, Minn.
    They wore two-piece satin dresses. The pink top was strapless and shirred to one side and the back featured covered buttons. The maid of honor wore a strapless white top featuring ribbon at the waist. Each wore a pink skirt and carried bouquets of calla lilies.
    Julianna Rose Pike of Hartselle was flower girl.
    The groom's father was best man.
    Groomsmen were Stephen Quattlebaum of Hartselle, Adam Statham of Madison, and David Hodge of Athens, Ga.
    Ushers were Drew Isom of Anniston, Vic Vasile and Joe Chandler, both of Tuscaloosa.
    Music was provided by a string quartet.
    Julie Sterling of San Antoni, Texas, and Pamela Rhoades of Akron, Ohio, cousins of the bride, were scripture readers.
    Following the ceremony, a buffet dinner reception was held and Gabrella Manor of Birmingham with jazz band entertainment.
    The bride's table featured a four-layer cake with white icing in a scroll design. The layers alternated white and red velvet cake with fresh roses between the layers and topping the cake.
    The groom's table featured pecan pie, lemon pie and coffee.
    Bonnie Marie Pike of Hartselle attended the bride's book.
    The couple honeymooned on a Caribbean cruise. They reside in Texas.
    A rehearsal party hosted by the groom's parents was held at Steak &Ale Restaurant of Birmingham.
    A bridal luncheon hosted by friends of the bride's mother was held at the bride's home.
    The couple was honored with several prenuptial events, including:
    Vickery, Coulter wed Oct. 8
    Morgan Elizabeth Vickery of Decatur and Jackson Daniel Coulter II of Hartselle were married Oct. 8, 2005 at 6 p.m. The Rev. Dr. F. Willis Vickery performed the ceremony at Central United Methodist Church in Decatur.
    Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. David Michael Vickery of Decatur and Mr. and Mrs. Jackson Daniel Coulter of Hartselle.
    Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a designer gown of diamond white tissue taffeta with a semi-cathedral train.
    The strapless design was fashioned with a molded couturier bodice and was decorated with a cluster of hand beading at the neckline.
    The ball gown skirt featured pinched puffs, each centered with a crystal and rhinestone motif.
    Her walking-length veil of Japanese silk illusion was edged with a band of ribbon. She wore clusters of pearls and rhinestones in her upswept hair.
    Virginia Vickery Pylant of Decatur, the bride's sister, was matron of honor.
    Katharine Carol Vickery of Decatur, the bride's sister, was maid of honor.
    Bridesmaids were Taylor Cantrell, Emily Leach and Anna Yates, all of Decatur; Katie Gibson and Clarissa Clark, both of Birmingham; Andrea Ward of Brewton; Helen Yates of Alexander City; Jenna Dempsey of Florence; and Briana Walter of Huntsville.
    Junior bridesmaids were Heather Nail and Hannah Brooke Coulter, both of Hartselle, and Margaret Vickery of Birmingham.
    Mary Frances McCall Eyster of Decatur was flower girl.
    The bridegroom's father was best man.
    Groomsmen were Jeremy Sparkman, Vic Coulter, Steve Wood and Steven Smith, all of Hartselle; John Chapman, Jeremy Parker, List Underwood, Abe Brand, Mikey Currier of Birmingham; and Wes Stevenson and Whitt Roby, both of Decatur.
    Luke Samuel Nail of Hartselle was ring bearer.
    Sarah Lovingood Adams and Loudie Ellen Thompson were candlelighters.
    Ruth Himbook, pianist, Terry Himbook, trumpeter, Weiman Viljar, violinist, and Miika Viljar, cellist, provided music.
    Sara Alice Godwin was wedding director.
    A reception followed at Quail Creek Golf Course in Hartselle.
    After a wedding trip to St. Lucia, the couple reside in Hartselle.
    The bridegroom's parents gave a rehearsal party at Decatur Country Club.
    The couple was honored with several prenuptial events, including:
    Harvell, Sheats to wed Nov. 19
    Ferrel and Sandra Todd of Brandon, Miss., announce the engagement of their daughter, Sondra Todd Harvell of Moody, to Jimmy Todd Sheats of Moody, son of Jimmy and Maria Sheats of Hartselle.
    The bride-elect is a graduate of Mississippi State Medical Center.
    She is employed as a physical therapist at Baptist Montclair of Birmingham. She is the granddaughter of Gladys Snowden of Chunky, Miss.
    The groom-elect is a graduate of Athens State University. He is employed as a production manager at Honda Manufacturing of Lincoln.
    The wedding will be held Nov. 19 at 4 p.m. at Doublehead Resort.
